Inspiring Believing Achieving

Football

Mr Ritchie takes football every Monday afternoon from 3.00 - 4.00pm during Term 1 and Term 2. Boys and girls from Primary 5-7 take part in passing, dribbling, shooting and tackling exercises and always finish with some matches.

The team enters the Mid Ulster league for small, medium and large schools every year and also participate in other competitions such as the Jones Shield indoor tournament, Christian Aid five-a-side tournament and many others.

Last year (2017-18) we had a truly remarkable year of success becoming the National 7 a side champions alongside winning multiple other trophies and playing an exciting brand of passing football. You can read a detailed report on our success on the Parents Page, Mullavilly Success page of the website.

Brownlow Cup Runners Up

Our P5 and 6 boys took part in the prestigious Brownlow Cup, a tournament we won two years ago and then went on to become National champions the following year when the boys were in P7. The tournament gives a good indication into the following year.

On todays showing the future looks bright as the boys played superbly all day, winning their group and semi-final without conceding a goal. They met Tandragee in the final and in a very tight match with chances for both teams Tandragee were the victors with a goal in extra time. Well done boys, we look forward to next year! This is especially impressive as 4 of our team of 7 were only in P5!

Girls Runners Up in Richmount Tournament

The girls football team continued our success at the Richmount Tournament every year by finishing as runners up today (22/5/19). Rebekah played superbly in nets making lots of good saves, Lucy-Jo and Darcie were so impressive in defence, Lucy ran her socks off and showed lots of skill, Keeley was superb scoring most of our goals and being a stand out player in the whole tournament. Amy did really well in defence and midfield and Dakoda in her first ever tournament did herself proud setting up one of our goals in the last match. Well done girls!! Well done also to Lucy for winning an individual award for most promising player.

IFA Futsal 5 a side tournament

Both our boys and girls football teams travelled to Craigavan Leisure to take part im the regional IFA Futsal tournament with the winners qualifying for the National finals. Both of our teams played well throughout the day. The boys started strongly with two very tight and competitive draws before falling away a bit as the day progressed finishing with a further 2 defeats.

The girls played very well. In a tight group with very few goals despite dominating all their matches they managed to win and get through to the final. In the final they played a very strong Kings Park team who won comfortably. Four of the girls had never played a proper football match before so this was a great achievement and the girls were pleased with their silver medals.

Jones Shield Qualifying

It was a tough day at the office for our football team today (15/2/19) at the qualifying day for the prestegious Jones Shield Indoor tournament. We returned the shield as defending champions from last year and unfortunately weren't able to make it through to the finals day for a shot at winning it again. The boys did play some nice football at times and most matches were closely fought. Special mention to Lucas for a super performance in nets. We did manage to finish the day with a win which meant we left with a smile on our faces.

The boys football team today pulled off a remarkable set of results to become the NATIONAL 7 a side football champions having already finished as runners up in the indoor 5 a side tournament as well. They were a class apart all day winning all 7 of their matches and only conceding one goal and even that was an o.g. They played a really high quality brand of passing football throughout and deserved to lift the trophy. Peter was reliable as ever in nets and didn't look like conceding a goal, Adam and James were superb in defence as well as playing a key role in starting many of our attacks with Adam scoring in both the semi final and final as well. Ethan was full of skill, speed and creativity on thr right wing, Oliver our captain drove the team forward and linked the whole team together with some lovely passing.
